Thanksgiving Games with a Little More Familia: A Friendsgiving Lotería Plan
Choose a bilingual Thanksgiving game for Friendsgiving, compare printable and physical Grateful AF sets, and plan an easy after-dinner round.

Choose the game’s tone first, count the players, then decide whether you want files to print yourself or a physical set. Keep the matching calling deck and boards together.
There is always a point in the evening when everyone says they are too full for dessert. Ten minutes later, somebody is slicing the pie. That little pause between dinner and leaving is a good place for a game.
Friendsgiving does not need a perfect tablescape or a full program. Maybe it is the people who helped you move, the cousins who live nearby or the friends who became family in a new city. A familiar game can give the whole table something to share, even when the conversation moves between Spanish and English.
First, choose the kind of laughter you want
Some tables want a little chisme and holiday chaos. Others include coworkers, young children or people who have just met. Look at the actual card list, not only the cover, before deciding what fits. You know your people better than a product description does.
Our Grateful AF Thanksgiving Lotería is an original bilingual edition with 48 calling cards and 40 distinct 5 × 7-inch boards. It mixes food, familia and seasonal humor. The title and some cards reference drinking and hangovers, so it is not the right choice for every school, workplace or family. Preview the artwork and labels before ordering.
Printable or physical: choose the work you want to do
A printable game is a good option when you have access to a suitable printer and time to prepare. Check the product’s included files and printing instructions, print one test page, then allow time for cutting the calling cards. A digital purchase does not send a package to your door.
A physical set is for the host who wants the printed game rather than the files. Read the selected format’s contents, materials, shipping options and delivery estimate before paying. Digital files, markers and extra quantities should never be assumed to be included. The page for your selected version is the source of truth.
The Grateful AF edition has 40 different boards. If your gathering needs more unique boards than that, do not solve it by mixing in boards from another theme. Consider teams or a separate custom project with the appropriate access.
| If you want… | Choose… | Check before buying |
|---|---|---|
| To print and prepare the game yourself | The digital edition | Included files, paper size, printer access and cutting time |
| A game delivered to you | The physical edition | Exact contents, shipping eligibility and order-specific delivery estimate |
| Your own faces and inside jokes | A custom Maker project | Permissions for photos, project access or a separate printed order |
A little plan for after dinner
Before anyone sits down, put the calling deck and markers somewhere the host can reach. Give one board to each person or pair. Show one winning pattern, such as a horizontal row, and agree how ties will work. The game is easier when the rules do not change halfway through.
Clear a little space after dinner, explain one turn, then play a round or two. Keep it flexible: the best family story may interrupt the game. People can watch, share a board or sit out without needing a reason. A small prize is optional; choosing the next song is a perfectly good celebration.
- One matching calling deck and enough boards for the players or teams.
- Markers appropriate for the ages attending; supervise young children.
- A well-lit table and a clear view of each card.
- A place to keep drawn cards for checking a winning board.
- Drinks and food beside the boards, not on them.
Make it bilingual without turning it into homework
Read each card’s Spanish and English names, show the picture and pause. If two people want to share calling, let them. Guests do not need to already know Lotería, translate for the whole room or have perfect pronunciation.
Try this welcome: “We’ll show every picture and say both names. Mark it if you see it on your board. We’ll practice one turn together.” If someone arrives late, help them join at the next round rather than stopping the evening for a formal introduction.
Bring a game, and still help with the dishes
A printed game can be a thoughtful host gift when the theme fits the group. If you plan to play that evening, let the host know first and offer to call the first round. A gift should take a task off their plate, not give them another activity to manage.
For a photo game, use pictures and nicknames people have agreed to share. A pet, a favorite recipe or the extra chair that always appears can make the deck personal without asking anyone to reveal private stories. You can start a free draft in Maker, then choose paid digital access or a separate custom printed order. A shop download and a Maker pass are different purchases.
And when the group chat starts planning December…
Keep the Thanksgiving deck together for next time. Navidad Latina is a separate original bilingual Christmas edition with its own pictures and calling deck. Preview it for your December gathering instead of swapping Christmas cards into Thanksgiving boards.
If you want both seasons, choose each product and format intentionally. Check the current price and shipping estimate at checkout; this guide does not promise holiday arrival or include a bundle.
