THE SHORT VERSION

Ask the hosts first. A game belongs only in an invited social time, separate from worship. Choose community-approved content rather than assuming a Christmas party deck fits a religious gathering.

Somebody arrives early with bread. Somebody else knows which cupboard holds the mugs. By the time the doors open, a handful of volunteers have already done the work that makes a room feel welcoming.

If you are helping with a December 12 gathering, begin there. An optional game can be part of the social time if the organizers want it. It should never turn the purpose of the day into a sales pitch or give the hosts another activity to manage.

The purpose of the day comes first

December 12 is the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Local observances vary, and a parish may already have a full schedule. Ask the organizing team whether a social activity is appropriate, where it can happen and when the space must be cleared.

Keep a game separate from worship, processions and devotional practice. Do not use sacred imagery as a joke or ask guests to explain their beliefs. This is independent hosting advice, not a church-endorsed program or religious product.

A community game does not need to be a religious game

For an invited social gathering, a custom photo project can focus on everyday things people share: bread, coffee, the library, the garden, the neighborhood or a volunteer-approved team photo. Get permission for faces, names and any organization branding. Use your own or licensed images.

Leave private details, documents and sensitive stories out. Have the hosts review the wording before preparing the game. A neutral image can start a conversation without turning anyone’s faith or personal life into entertainment.

Our ready-made Navidad Latina edition is a separate Christmas game, not a devotional resource. Its seasonal humor should not be assumed suitable for a parish or every age group. If that is not the tone you need, a reviewed custom deck is the more intentional route.

Welcome people without asking them to perform

Offer a place to sit, watch or share a board. Let people join the social gathering without playing. Nobody needs to disclose why they are sitting out or what language they are most comfortable speaking.

Say both names, show the picture and pause. Demonstrate one turn and one winning pattern, agree on ties and keep drawn cards for checking. Use markers suitable for the ages attending, supervise young children and leave clear walkways. Keep the pace calm enough for the farthest seat to follow.

Decide what the volunteers actually need

A custom digital project and a physical game are different choices. Start a Maker draft free to explore the design. If you need final digital files, compare current project-pass and membership access. If you only need a shipped custom set, review the separate printed-order option from a saved free draft; buying digital access first is not required.

A physical purchase does not unlock paid digital downloads. Ready-made shop files are also separate from Maker access. Check the exact contents and order-specific delivery estimate rather than assuming a game will arrive before December 12.

Ask about nonprofit access before buying

Eligible education or nonprofit organizations can apply for discounted Maker access. Approval is required; an organization name or parish email alone does not guarantee eligibility. Once approved, sign in and review the project-pass and eligible membership options rather than expecting an automatic refund later.

Assign one person to check the final design and another to handle the table on the day. Keep participation free and avoid paid entries, cash pools or betting in this social-gathering plan. Thank the volunteers, make event photos optional and help clear up. The best activity leaves less work for the last person to leave.
